12/04/2008 - Philadelphia, PA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Patrik Elias scored with 90 seconds left in regulation, then scored at the 2:46 mark of overtime to give the New Jersey Devils a 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers at the Wachovia Center.
In the extra session, Elias took a pass from Brian Gionta, slipped by his defender and then slid a backhander between the pads of Martin Biron for the win.
Zach Parise scored the other goal while Scott Clemmensen made 29 saves for the Devils, who have won six of their past seven games.
Kimmo Timonen and Scottie Upshall each scored a goal while Biron stopped 28 shots for the Flyers, who have dropped three of their last four.
The game was tied for much of the third period, but the Flyers took the lead courtesy of a power-play goal. With Paul Martin in the box for hooking, Upshall had the puck at the right side of the net and attempted to pass it out front. However, the disc hit off the stick of Bryce Salvador and went between the pads of Clemmensen for a 2-1 advantage with 4:28 to play.
Shortly after the goal, Gionta was called for hooking, but Philadelphia did not score. Right after the penalty expired, Elias' one-timer from the left circle went between the pads of Biron with 90 seconds to play.
The first period was a spirited, but scoreless affair as each goaltender made five stops in the frame.
Skating on the power play, Philadelphia took the lead. After Clemmensen made several stops, the Devils tried to clear the puck out of their zone. Timonen, though, kept the puck in at the left point, took a stride forward and blasted a slap shot through a screen for a 1-0 lead at the 6:48 mark of the second.
However, New Jersey tied the game with 2:43 left in the second. Parise brought the puck around the right side of the net on a wraparound that Biron stopped, but Parise grabbed his own rebound and slammed it home for his 14th goal of the season.
